Email and text message notifications differ from the Notifications menu (bell icon) located in the top menu bar of Schoology. The notifications listed under this bell icon are not customizable. These notifications provide a running list of academic actions relating to your account only (not your child's account if you are using a parent account).
As a student or teacher, Schoology sends you email notifications for Social, Academic, Group, and School activity that occurs in your account. These notifications pertain to the school, courses, and groups in which you are enrolled.
Email Notification Settings as a Student or Teacher
- Log in to your Schoology student account or teacher account.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to your name and select Settings.
- Click the Notifications tab.
- Select the button next to each notification to choose to receive email or text messages as:
- On (receive from all courses)
- Off (the default setting)

Custom (pick and choose the courses you want to receive notifications for).
- When you are done making changes, scroll to the bottom and click on Save Changes.
Note: Since these above notification settings pertain to school, courses, and groups in which you are enrolled and parents are NOT enrolled in any courses, these types of notifications and settings do not pertain to parent accounts.
Set Up Your Account to Receive Text Notifications
- Log in to your Schoology student account or teacher account.
- Navigate to your Notifications Tab as listed above.
- Then off to the right, you will see a box that says Send notifications to your phone via text message. Click on this and you will get a pop up to enter your cell phone information:
- Cell number (Note: Only one phone number can be added to receive text notifications.)
- Country
- Carrier
- FOR PARENTS: If you are a parent, you must be logged into your child's Schoology account (not your parent Schoology account) and enter your phone number here INSTEAD OF your child's phone number (if they have their own cell number they could've used). Again, only one number is able to be edited and saved.
- Click Set Mobile to apply settings.
- Now you can access your Notifications tab and customize your text notifications.
- To edit or remove your cell number:
- Click Edit next to Mobile Phone to the right of your notifications settings.
- Update your cell phone information or click Remove if you wish to remove your mobile phone entirely.
- Click Edit next to Mobile Phone to the right of your notifications settings.
