Throughout the school year and as each year begins and closes out, you may find it helpful to go through your Google Drive and do a bit of "clean up" to better organize your files to easily find what you need and determine what is or isn't still needed. Here are some helpful tips and suggestions on how to tackle such a task.
Step 1: Clear Out Your Drive
- Log in to your OneLogin Portal and open your Google Drive app.
- In the left menu bar, select the New button.
- Click on New Folder and title it.
- For example, name it "Old Folder" and drag and drop all of your loose files into this folder.
Step 2: Create Folder Organization
- Recommended to create BIG folders (ex: School, Personal, Technology, IEM Folder, Videos, Units, Canvas, Past Years, etc)
- Recommended to add subfolders within those big folders where they make sense (ex: Units, Science, Lesson Plans, etc)
Step 3: Organize Folders (3 options)
- Keep in alphabetical order
- Number folders you use most often by renaming and adding a number ahead of the folder name.
- Add emojis from emojipedia.org to have a visual representation of what is inside the folder. Put the emoji ahead or behind the folder's name. NOTE: To keep folders organized by numbers or alphabetically, place your emoji at the end of the folder name.
Step 4: Color Code Folders
- Right-click the folder and choose Change Color.
Step 5: Move Loose Files
- Move loose files inside "Old Folder" to the appropriate folder they belong in.
