You may need to do a little housekeeping with clearing your browsing data (such as cache, cookies, browsing history) as the first step in troubleshooting issues with connecting to the network, internet, sites, etc if you begin to notice the following:
- your emails are not always sending
- you can't download files
- your Chromebook or websites are just acting odd (loading as blank screens, not loading at all, etc)
- you are getting error messages (internal server error, request blocked, access denied, filtering errors, etc)
Follow these steps below to clear out your browsing data.
Open Google Chrome , click the Customize and control Google Chrome (3 dots) icon, and select Settings.
Select Privacy and security. Then, select Clear browsing data.
Under the Basic tab, select what you would like to clear:
- Select the Time Range (for example: All time).
- Select Cached images and files to clear space on your device.
- Select Clear cookies and other site data to clear out any outdated information related to cookies / site data (Google Support's How Cache and Cookies Work). NOTE: It is important to routinely clear out cookies, as this may often solve your issue.
- You can also select to clear Browsing history (as needed).
- After making your selections, click the Clear Data button.
Close out your Google Chrome browser.
Next, make sure your Chrome browser is up to date:
Then, if the issue still persists, you can also test disabling browser extensions to see if an extension is the root cause.
NOTE: There may be instances where you may also need to update your settings to allow cookies.
If you find things are still not working properly, completely shut down your device and then power back on for changes to take full effect.
